Freelance Oboist and Instructor
Jana Specht is an active freelance artist in the greater Chicago area. She began her musical studies at age five on piano. At age nine, she began playing oboe in her school’s band, and her love for the instrument and ensemble music grew throughout her studies. Jana graduated in June 2017 from Northwestern University with a Master’s Degree in Oboe Performance, where she studied with Scott Hostetler. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Oboe Performance from DePaul University in June 2015, where she studied with Jelena Dirks and Eugene Izotov. Jana is currently principal oboe of the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra, works administratively for the Music Institute of Chicago, and regularly performs with student-formed organizations in the Chicago area. She has shared her love of music with private students for over four years, teaches at the Music Offering in Evanston, and in her spare time enjoys rock climbing and kayaking.
